Atria’s F-Lab about feminism and Islam concerns a dialogue between Seyran Ateş and feminist opinion-leaders. The F-lab is an exclusive event, but will be streamed live on Atria’s Facebook page.
The Turkish-German Seyran Ateş is a feminist, activist and lawyer and co-founder of the Ibn Rushd-Goethe mosque, which opened in July 2017 in Berlin. The mission of Ateş is to create a safe atmosphere for a democratic Islam where women, men, and members of the LGBTIQ + community have the ability to pray together and study the Quran. She offers a new and unique feminist perspective on the Islam in Europe.
The discussion will focus on the new perspectives Seyran Ateş offers on Islam in Europe and how she inspires and brings together women with different agenda’s and opinions. What is the role of Islamic feminism in Europe? How can a young generation of feminists, in Amsterdam and the Netherlands, be inspired by new voices and female perspectives on Islam? What does an inclusive and democratic Islam look like and what is the value of female perspectives and voices?
At 12.00 the live-stream will start with a short interview by Zerrin Cengiz, PhD student in Gender Studies with a focus on Islamic feminism at the University of Utrecht. After the interview participants will enter conversation with Ateş.
The live-stream will be broadcast on Atria’s Facebook page on Monday 24 September at 12.00 hrs. The video will also be available a week later on Atria’s YouTube channel.
In case you want to see Seyran Ateş live: at 8 pm on Monday, September 24, Seyran Ateş will be a guest in the program Holy Mama! in ‘de Rode Hoed’. Tickets are available for this event.
