Summary:
A letter appealing to international feminist solidarity with the journalist Maria Antónia Palla, who was being tried in court for having made a tv program about clandestine abortion, was sent by Portuguese feminists on May 7th 1979. The opinion movement created around this trial helped to set the political agenda to tackle abortion issues. The decriminalisation of abortion at woman’s request was only achieved in Portugal after three decades of struggle (2007).
