‘Women are able to learn driving’

collection highlight ‘Women are able to learn driving’

This note is the only piece that Atria has in the collection of the first Dutch Association of Female Motorists (in Dutch: Eerste Nederlandsche Bond van Vrouwelijke Automobilisten). It would certainly be very interesting to know who founded this association and exactly when it was founded. Who were its members? And who was the president P.K. Gargoyle-Olie?

The note congratulates a women who has just obtained her drivers license. Moreover, it expresses hope that she will pursue with a similar commitment to realize the goal of the ‘Eerste Nederlandsche Bond van Vrouwelijke Automobilisten’, which is to dispell the expression: women will never learn.

Fake document

But it is very coincidental that the address is Sparkplugstreet (Bougiestraat) and the sender of the letter is P.K. Gargoyle Oil. We now think it’s a fake document. We are curious who came up with this document and this joke.
