The photo collection contains portraits and images of well-known and lesser-known women who contributed to the history of women's gender equality and contains about 30,000 images.

The collection features work by well-known photographers who captured their times, such as Gon Buurman and Bertien van Manen. The collection also gives a face to Aletta Jacobs' contemporaries and a wide range of women's groups. There are photos of historic congresses, of actions and demonstrations of the women's suffrage movement and of the fight against gender inequality, of gatherings of women of colour, of lesbian women, Christian women, rural women, academic women and girl groups.

Many photos can be viewed online, but sometimes this is not possible due to copyright issues. In the reading room, however, all photos in the database can be viewed.

Many photos can be ordered for a small fee. The original version of photos can also be loaned, on request.

Poster collection

The poster collection contains about 10,000 copies and includes national and international posters. These posters reflect the zeitgeist, call for political or playful actions and rallies, draw attention to economic and political gender inequality, promote women's films and bookstores, dance and club nights for women. This collection also contains many postcards. In addition, Atria also has a modest collection of prints and paintings of well-known women in history (donated as part of persons' archives).

Most posters and prints can be consulted digitally in the reading room. Original posters and prints can be loaned on request.

Interviews and sound recordings

Atria manages a collection of unique interviews and audio recordings with well-known women, including: politicians, filmmakers, writers and artists.

There are audio and video recordings that form a special oral history collection, produced or acquired by Atria itself. This collection aims to supplement written history with the histories and stories of women. The metadata of this special source material can also be found at DANS and the collection is regularly consulted by researchers and students.

The oral history collection can be viewed and/or listened to in our reading room by appointment.

Atria also has collections of CDs, LPs and DVDs, especially with music. Meanwhile, many audio cassettes from personal archives have also been digitised. These will be added to the database in the coming period.

Objects

Photographs of many historical objects in the Atria archive have been taken and can be found online in the database. This collection includes banners, banners and paraphernalia, such as buttons. Original objects as well as photographs and posters are - condition permitting - also available for loan to museum institutions.
