Did you know that today's anti-racism movement stands on the shoulders of Black, Migrant and Refugee Women from the 1980s and 1990s? Reporters Charisa Chotoe and Devika Partiman engage in four clips with the pioneers of the past, such as Gloria Wekker, Nancy Jouwe and Twie Tjoa. Who are and were the leading women? What were they fighting for? And how did they shape their resistance?

Unique archive documents and iconic women

In four clips, Charisa Chotoe (known from the TV programme Propaganda) and Devika Partiman (activist and founder Stem op een Vrouw) discuss gender and ethnicity, intersectionality, racism and resistance, representation, friendship and self-organisation, using unique archive documents. The interviews will introduce you to iconic women Nancy Jouwe, Maayke Botman, Tineke Eveline Jansen, Fenna Ulichki, Gloria Wekker, Anne Krul, Hellen Felter and Twie Tjoa.

"Let's recognise that it was women who laid the foundation for today's anti-racism movement."

"A 'home' was created for women from different backgrounds. Room for content deepened, room to be free and joyful. Sizzling cross-cultural connections emerged between Angela Davis and Fatima Mernissi, Audre Lorde and Nawal el Sadaawi. It was not yet called intersectional, but it crackled."
