Move Up!

Multi-year study of the effectiveness of the interventions Make a Move and Make A Move+, a gender-specific prevention programme developed by Rutgers in 2014 for boys aged between 12 and 18 in education and youth services.

Make a Move (+): prevention programme unwanted sexual behaviour

Make a Move consists of eight meetings aimed at preventing unwanted sexual behaviour and improving boys' psychosexual health. This is improved by giving boys more knowledge, skills, self-confidence, a positive attitude and self-efficacy in sexual interactions.
Make a Move + has been further developed for young people with mild intellectual disabilities.

What role does Atria play within this research?

As part of a Phd track by Dr Mirthe Verbeek at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Atria collected qualitative data at the locations where Make a Move(+) was given as part of this research. These were interviews with the trainers and participants, and observations of the meetings. This data was used as part of the effect evaluations (see publications) and the realist evaluation.

Realist evaluation

As the final part of the Move UP! Project, Atria conducted another realist evaluation based on the observation and interview data collected earlier. This evaluation aims to answer for whom, what, why and under what circumstances an intervention works or does not work. We are currently in the process of writing a scientific article of this, in collaboration with Dr Mirthe Verbeek and Prof Daphne van de Bongardt.
