Research into gender and climate in the Netherlands

The effects of climate change on gender inequality in the 'Global South' have been studied extensively. But what about in the Netherlands? The research report Gender en klimaat in Nederland discusses why and how gender equality organisations deal with climate in the Netherlands. Atria's collection plays a major role in this: through a variety of sources, the topic of gender & climate has been extensively researched in the past.

Climate issues are a hot topic both in academia and in social and political debate. It is a complex, broad and transboundary topic and deals with everything related to climate, such as CO2 and methane emissions, the social consequences of climate disasters and the rise in energy prices. Climate issues arise both globally and locally and it is linked to national and international policies of countries, as well as individual choices on a day-to-day basis.

Effects of climate change

Much research has already been done on climate change and its impacts around the world. Because literature mainly focuses on the effects of climate change on gender inequality in the Global South, there is little knowledge on the effects on gender inequality in the Netherlands. This research represents a beginning to fill this knowledge gap and focuses on the perspective and work of gender equality organisations past and present.
