22 Feb - 26 Apr Discussion Night: Feminism and Sexuality

In current western society men are discouraged to express their emotions and feelings. They are expected to ‘man up’. Women are lead to believe that if they do not want to be perceived as a slut, they shouldn’t have multiple sleeping partners. Such norms and expectations that surround gender pressure men and women to act or think in a certain way. This pressure not only affects the way individuals perceive themselves based on their gender, but also influences preferences for sexual partners and desired interactions with the other.

In this discussion night we will talk about the relationship between gender constructions, sexism and sexual interactions. How do power differences between genders affect sexual intercourse? Are we held back by such societal pressures in expressing our individual preferences and emotions? What about queer sexuality, is it immune to such pressures? Does it suffer from other particular ones? What are our experiences with this subject and how can we all learn from each other to come to a more healthy and free experience of our sexualities?

Time: 19:30-22:00

This event is organised by The Feminist Club Amsterdam.
