Zami debate at Atria

In the light of Angela Davis’ visit to Amsterdam in the spring of 2018 Zami Foundation will organise a debate on Black feminism, activism and racism at Atria, institute on gender equality and women’s history. During this event, an intergenerational and interdisciplinary group of women will discuss contemporary feminism and activism from the new wave of Black, migrant, and refugee feminists.

Registration is no longer possible (the event is fully booked).

The atmosphere in the Netherlands has become grimmer over the last decade. There exists a general sense of incomprehension and images from social media, especially from the U.S., ignite combative feelings in the Netherlands. Social media contributes to increased awareness on racism, gender related violence, women’s rights, equality and self-determination. Did the struggle for a better position for Black, migrant, and refugee women change? To what extent is racialised struggle fueled by polarised positions and perspectives? Is the Netherlands capable of embracing its multiculturality and ready to decolonize? This debate foregrounds the possibility for a different future.

The chance that Angela Davis will be present during the event is unlikely, but she will receive a special invitation.

The Zami debate will be streamed live on Zami’s Facebook.

Time and location

Atria, institute on gender equality and women’s history, Vijzelstraat 20
