Summary:
Description of the role of gender in human development in Latvia and the evolution of gender equality in Latvia, including a summary of existing gender roles. The latter is recognised to be one of the main reasons why, in spite of the contribution of education system and employment policies in advancement of women, poverty in Latvia is still gendered, as well as violence and prostitution occur rather often. Certain forward-looking strategies to promote equality are proposed.
