Summary:
The article, published in the special issue of “Gender equality: a precondition for democracy,” deals with changes in employment of women during the transition to the free market economy and emerging unemployment. The latter led to a revival of stereotypes about gender roles, mainly among men. The authors describe differences in motivation for professional work and assessments of it’s various aspects by gender, based on special survey data (n=1060). The data show that attitudes and real behavior differ more with regards to domestic and unpaid work.
