A contemporary interdisciplinary exploration of the Old Testament, which combines knowledge from gender studies, anthropology, history of religion, biblical studies and literary studies. Through analysis of women’s images the book discusses significant religious, political and ethical issues in the biblical world. The woman figure functions as a mirror of an ideology, which serves as a foundation of patriarchal society. The biblical woman is studied in a wide range of roles, many of which continue to be topical in the perception of femininity in the present world such as wife, mother, whore, prophet, the wise woman and so on.
