Summary:
The brochure looks back on the first 10 years of the Fraenhaus (battered women’s shelter) which was founded 1980 by Femmes en Détresse (FED), formerly a working group of the Mouvement de Libération des Femmes. It puts violence against women in a greater social, historic and juridical context, it contains personal narratives of victims (revealing the vortex of violence),
it shows every-day life in the shelter and provides background information. The authors demonstrate that violence against women is part of society: in the family (children and wives), at school, in public space, at work and in the media. Domestic violence is often ignored or tolerated as a private matter. The services of FED are: helpline, contact centre, support in legal and administrative matters, childcare, psychological and health support, organisation of an independent life. The brochure contains a summary of women’s rights in Luxembourg with emphasis on marriage & divorce (incl. useful addresses).
